Hello! My name is justin, commonly known as justan oval. I'm a YouTuber that makes silly animations and music.
I'm a multi-genre composer / music artist; I write silly, upbeat, cinematic, and horror pieces. My work fits great for video games, and has been in some!
My goal is to create the ideal soundtrack for your VIDEO GAMES.
I am open to animation work, 3d modeling work, and coding work as well depending on the project.my work
video games
Below are some games I have worked on in the past.
Truly, working on video games are my biggest passion. I love to create music that perfectly encapsulates a specific emotion or mood, allowing the player to experience the game to it's full extent. Being able to move someone in this way is everything to me.
qualia
Developed by CMY2K, qualia is a retro-inspired interactive fiction text game where you analyze two participants based on their responses to a series of questions, and determine whether they're human or artificial intelligence, resulting in an incredible thought experiment.
I was tasked with making an ending song for the game that was meant to express the character's feelings on life.
Inspired by the Portal series, "Think Happy" is a cinematic orchestral piece that I think accomplishes exactly that.
jimjam's jamboree
A display of my range, JimJam's Jamboree is a horror game made during a game jam with some friends. In this game, I coded the UI, made the model and animations of the creature, did some of the sound design, and made all of the music.
There's three primary tracks for this game:- The shooting gallery theme: a silly and upbeat piece with a brief spooky section that returns right back to happy, as if nothing happened.
- The chase theme: inspired by the soundtrack of Severance, this is a fast-paced thriller piece that would play while the monster was chasing you This track is unused.
- The title theme: inspired by the soundtrack of Little Nightmares, this is a slow orchestral piece that builds up into a terrifying and daunting symphony.
The music made for this game can be listened to here.
my channel
I'm a full-time YouTuber, and I make animations and music. These are the projects that I think display my range the best, and that I am most proud of.
sharks with legs
This is my first full-length music video. The feedback on this video is what set the tone for the rest of my channel, I'd say.
I am a big fan of absurdity and nonsense, and while my channel has always been this way, this was definitely one of the first big weird ones.
memory lane
This piece was heavily inspired by Jack Conte and Yuki Kajiura.
I love the surreal, dark tones of this piece, with orchestral elements included.
frenzied
While this piece is not a part of a game, I think it's a fantastic display of my ability to create orchestral pieces, as well as my typical silly stuff.
This piece was one of my first orchestral pieces, meant to emulate the feeling of a specific panic type I had had at the time. While I couldn't put it into words, I think I did very well turning it into music so other's could feel it with me.
advertisements
A couple companies have reached out to me in search of creating unique advertisements in my style for them.
While my commissions are primarily open for video games, there are certain exceptions for certain clients with passion I'm interested in!
richie's cafe
Richie's Cafe is a cafe located on the campus of Temple University.
They reached out to me in search of a unique advertisement to put on their socials that's more geared towards college students.
There was a lot of talk back and forth to figure out what the best approach was--the original plan was going to be a lot shorter and simpler.
I noticed that Temple University had a mascot, Hooter the red owl. There was an immediate flash of a gremlin-sized Hooter that I could use as the focus, and this is what we went with. Lots of people loved him!
recte bookkeeping
Recte Bookkeeping is a bookkeeping company with a unique identity: bookkeeping for the dreamer.
I was instructed to make a short promotional video that further increased the uniqueness and brand recognition of the firm.
With this project, I was given a lot of creative direction, and I did my best to replicate exactly what they envisioned. I also wanted to keep the theme similar to their websites branding, as it already had a unique design based around their picoCAD artwork.
expectations
There will be a contract for you (the client!) to sign outlining the specifications of the commissioned work, the payment expected, and the terms & conditions.
If there's something in the contract you want changed, just let me know!
For a music piece, expect around $200 per minute as a base. The final price will vary based on the complexity (Hatsune Miku, lyrics, etc.).
It's important that we discuss key details about your expectations up-front: the number of tracks needed, your budget, and your idea.
If you don't have an idea, you will need to come up with something before we continue. Whether it be inspiration of other music, a visual mood-board, anything. I need to know explicit details about what you're expecting as that determines the complexity of the project, which will help me quote you better on pricing and scheduling, and it determines my confidence in being able to make something you're happy with.
Once the details are discussed, all will be considered to help me calculate the final pricing! Then, I'll check my availability to see when I can fit you in.
For most projects, expect a turnaround time within 3 months of the contract start date (often sooner).
Some notes:
- It is expected that you have watched my YouTube channel and know who you are commissioning. Not everything will be weird, but expect my personality to be throughout the piece(s).
- You must initially reach out to me through email, at [email protected]. I'll respond within the week, usually; otherwise I'll let you know if I'm unavailable at the moment.
- Once the base is established, all communication will take place over Discord. Please do not try to friend me on Discord beforehand, as I will ignore random requests!
- Typically, I do half up-front, the other half once the commission is done. You won't receive the highest quality until the last payment is made. If you need to cancel/refund , I usually keep the first payment if any work has been started.
- The track may be released onto my distribution platforms once completed. This is up to my discretion. It would be much preferred if there was art provided to me for the track/album cover!
- I love creative freedom, and prefer it over anything. Though, there is an extent in which there can be too much freedom. I need some guidance of what you're expecting, or I have no way of knowing whether you'll be satisfied or not.
- I do my payments through Stripe payment processor. You can pay with credit, debit, PayPal, or CashApp through it.
If for any reason you need to refund or cancel the commission, please see the Cancellation & Refund Policy.
I may decline any commission if I feel I can't be adequate enough or if I am uncomfortable moving forward.
If you are interested in moving forward, please contact me at [email protected]!
